The Legacy of the Oka Trappists
Canada / 2008 / Ninon Larochelle / 52 mins
Director Larochelle takes us into the heart of the world famous Trappists monastery in Oka. After a 125 year legacy the monks are finally leaving. At its peak, the abbey was home to as many as 200 monks, who belong to the Order of Cistercians but since then the number of monks have dwindled down to 28. The camera observes the monks in their daily rituals, and through these images and their testimony we discover a hidden world and
a legacy of tradition that has also nurtured a generation of scientists and agronomists.
