A Soldier's Peace
USA / 2009 / Kristen Thompson and Marshall Thompson / 87 & 55 mins
When Army journalist Marshall Thompson came home from a tour of duty in Iraq, two things were clear to him – the war was wrong and he needed to do something to stop it. But with no media resources available to him Marshall engaged in the most basic form of protest available to an ordinary citizen - he walked. Marshall embarked on a one-man walk across the entire 500-mile length of his conservative home state of Utah in the hopes of getting people to talk about the war and peace. His remarkable 27-day journey attracted state intervention and divided a community and the media. A Soldier's Peace tackles freedom of expression whilst celebrating the power of dialogue against the backdrop of a highly divisive subject, being the topic of US military presence in Iraq.
