Smiley Film Sales is an international film sales agency dedicated to the worldwide sales of award-winning films and television shows. Initially launched as Smiley Film Distribution & World Sales, rapid growth has seen the company develop from a niche documentary sales specialist to a fully fledged film and TV sales agency with a network of global TV buyers and film distributors that stretches from New York to Seoul.
Working closely with the independent film and television community, the productions represented by Smiley are creative and often award-winning and critically acclaimed. We represent exclusively for international sales, The Blood of Yingzhou District ( 2007 Oscar winner licensed to date to almost 30 territories worldwide ), Freeheld ( 2008 Oscar winner ) and Oscar nominated director Oren Jacoby's most recent feature Constantine's Sword.
Smiley Film Sales offers three primary areas of service: (i) Pre-distribution and sales strategy consultatio (ii) international sales and distribution representation for single project or multiple output producers (iii) Programming consultation for platform operators including start-up and new media companies. For producers with completed projects we offer advice on all aspects of TV licensing, theatrical and non theatrical sub-licensing and festival submissions. For producers with exciting new projects we can facilitate pre-sales and international co-production financing. Our approach is to develop a long term, comprehensive strategy from concept to film festival debut, to theatrical release and, ultimately programme and DVD sales. As a film - maker's representative, Smiley is focus intensive on each project it undertakes and values regular communication with the film-makers it represents. Relevant festivals and markets attended past, present and future include TIFF, AIDC, IDFA, Dokleipzig, MIPTV, MIPDOC and MIPCOM.
Smiley Film Sales was founded by Managing Director, Ewa Bigio who is deeply passionate about working with the independent film-making community. She is a trustee of DOCNZ Trust ( www.docnz.org.nz ) as well as the former Chairperson of DOCNZ Forum, the precursor to DOCNZ Summit, an industry initiative aimed at raising the stakes for independent documentary projects.
